The Story
Born and raised on Burnside Island near Savannah, Georgia, Daniel Cowan earned the nickname "Dan Random" from fellow musicians who marveled at his refusal to stick to one genre. The name stuck — and so did the music.
After moving to Atlanta in 1989 to pursue his career, Dan has released ten studio albums, earned three Grammy Award nominations, and copyrighted close to one hundred original compositions. His sound compresses several styles of music into a common thread that is unmistakably distinctive.
Beyond music, Dan is the author of Somewhere Called Now, a debut science fiction novel with an accompanying soundtrack — a rare book in the publishing world that weaves words with music. The novel follows four Savannah college students who stumble onto a time machine, with songs placed throughout the story to enhance the reading experience.
